Monday's Music...What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?

Among all the Christmas songs that played this holiday season, this one has stuck with me. This song has been sung by many artists starting with the Orioles in 1948 and then on to Harry Conick Jr., Nat King Cole, Mel Torme, Ella Fitzgerald, Rufus Wainwright, and Miss Lee Ann Womack who sings the version of this song below. The song was originally in 1947 written by Frank Loesser, the composer for Guys and Dolls and the song "Baby, It's Cold Outside". The lyrics capture the bittersweet wonder of a new love for New Year's. But hey, with this song, I am sure anyone could snag a date;) So if you don't have plans but happen to have someone in mind, then send them this song<3

Have a Happy New Year's!

Cheers,
Cassandra

Wednesday's Wonder...Castle in Central Park!

Did you know there is a castle in Central Park?? I sure didn't! My friend and I were on our way to the American Museum of Natural History in NYC and we accidentally took one more stop on the subway express track than we needed to. However, it allowed us to stumble upon a real life castle!

Its officially called the Belvedere Castle, which in Italian means "beautiful view." I would love to go back during the height of spring when there is color on the trees again! Cause, when I was there, the view was quite dreary due to it being winter an all haha.

Originally built in 1865 by Calvert Vaux and Jacob Wrey Mould, both designers and architects for Central Park, Belvedere was intended to be a Victorian Folly, a fantasy open-air structure, with no doors or windows that provided a great backdrop but without a real intended purpose.Well, sounds like some of the building that still goes on today with our tax dollars...Bridge to Nowhere anyone? I'm just being fresh here.

Belvedere gained more purpose in 1919 when the National Weather Service began using one of the castle's towers to gather scientific data about the weather. It is still used for this purpose today. Cool! You can walk up to the top of the tower for a small fee if you are interested or have the extra change!

Here are some pictures from the rest of my adventure in the city with my friend Jeanine!

Till next time!

Friday's Flowers...Left over Flower Fabric!

With a little creative and resourceful thought, you can add a little character to old pieces! This desk was my older sisters when she was in elementary school. It was then passed on to me when my she got a bigger desk in High School and then on to my younger sister after I had gotten a bigger desk when I reached High School.

I recently realized that since most homework is done mostly on the computer these days, I didn't need such a big desk, hence the small desk again! However, it was quite shabby when it circulated back. My younger sister has this need to write little notes and dates on and under home furnishings (she still does it lol). For example, my mothers bureau has my sisters name carved on the side. I should also mention that under the kitchen island is basically my sister's diary! Hahaa I always wondered why she did that. Maybe she subconsciously doesn't want to be forgotten? Thankfully she only put stickers on the desk above.

Also, I heard that bedrooms should be places to distress i.e. no homework stations!
I have been trying to make it a point to finish what I need to do for the day during the day instead of into the night. It's important to work hard and relax/play even more! I am trying to make my bedroom more simplified and less cluttered by sorting through all the stuff I have gathered throughout the years. Some I salvage, most I donate!

I hope this project inspires you to think creatively about some of the old pieces in your home that could use a revamp!

Till next time!

Monday's Music...Blast from the past!

Hi there! I wanted to share with you my excitement in the discovery of new music! My boyfriend recently came across some songs by Marshall Crenshaw a couple weeks ago and he shared them with me. It was a grey day in November with the last colorful leaves still on the trees and we had met for our usual Saturday putzing around. My boyfriend and I were in the car and he showed me the songs. It only took half of one listen before I was dancing around! The music made me feel good and that life was simple. The rockabilly undertones of Mr. Crenshaw's music give it this 1950's touch where you can't help but snap your fingers. I love when music can capture you like that! It was "Someday Someway", "There She Goes Again"and "Whenever You're on My Mind" that got my boyfriend and I all giddy. What a great moment that was! Definitely getting the album! Till then, I linked the tracks below for enjoyment! Hhaha check out Mr. Crenshaws style from the 80's!! Sooo ridiculously awesome!

First things first...

Hi everyone! I am very excited to start this blog! This will be a collection of my thoughts and opinions. I think quantity is trumping quality in American culture. At times, I even find myself guilty of behaving like this. In the age of Facebook, people are lacking real meaningful relationships. The world may feel smaller, more connected, but what kind of connection do we really want? So recently I deleted my Facebook account. Turns out it will take 14 days before it's officially deleted...T-minus 7 days. I will get into my reason in another post.

My mother told me that I use to hold her face when I spoke. This is one of those werid things we all do as children. I don't know if this has any significance. I do place importance on being understood. Recently, I have been trying to place emphasis on understanding the things around me.
One thing I know for sure is that Life is about the three L's: loving, laughing, learning!

Instead of having a list of my likes and interests on a profile, I will be exploring them with sincerity in this blog. There are 3 themes I find myself gravitating towards:

1) Music
2) Wonder
3) Flowers

This blog is going to have a format where Monday's posts will be music related. I am a songwriter myself, so it may be a new song I have just written, a new band I have found, or any music related thing I find interesting. Wednesday's posts will be about wondering about something and wanting to know more. Curiosity wont kill this Cas ;) Friday's will be any thing that relates to flowers. Maybe its an arrangement I have done, maybe a room that has a great design with flowers in the corner, or a trip I'd like to take to the Botanical Gardens in spring. I may not post every Monday, Wednesday, or Friday but I hope you enjoy the ones I do.

Stay tuned for the next post:)
